CODECUBE VENTURES

Media Mayhem

This is one of the funniest things I've read in a long while. And this is one of the most unexpected twists I've seen in a long while.

Batman Begins looks like it might be really good ... no more Joel Schumacher bullshit (ie. rubber nipples on batman's suit). And I've been waiting for an Aliens vs. Predator movie for well over 10 years.

And while we're somewhat close to the subject ... ugo.com has some of the most annoying advertisement methods I have ever seen in a website. takeover ads that come up before you can access whatever content you came for, flash ads that pseudo pop-up in front of your content, flash video ads, pop-up flash video ads. Good grief, I saw only three pages while I was there searching for the avp links for this post and I was assaulted with 6 ads. And by assaulted, I mean that they took over the browsing experience and did not go away without making me notice them first (ie. clicking the close link on the flash pseudo pop-up ad).

Not that I have a solution for the nescessary evil of somehow paying for these big media sites, as ugo does with ad revenue. But I would almost rather deal with small podunk sites with animated gifs for aesthetic than have to deal with this shit on every site I go to.

update: holy crap! when I went to post this, I unfortunately still had avp.ugo.com open ... it popped up a prompt asking me if I wanted the applet to have script access or something. I tried clicking no and it subsequently locked up my entire system. And to add insult to injury, it somehow managed to pop up an ad for honda while the rest of windows was dead-locked. UnFreakingBelievable!
